When my brother and I were about to get our first channel monetized, we were super excited about how much we might earn from it.
I remember constantly searching for articles and videos, looking into other people’s earnings to get an idea of how much we might earn from our channel.
The results were often confusing, though, with some sites citing $18 per a thousand views and others saying $3 to $5.
Watching people’s earnings videos wasn’t the best either, as their niches were different, and they rarely broke down stats like where their viewers were based.
To understand why things like viewer location and niches are important, you must understand how YouTube ad revenue works.
At its core, YouTube is an advertising platform. Advertisers pay to place ads on videos and to incentivize people to create content, YouTube generally gives 55% of incoming ad revenue to monetized YouTubers.
Since the primary objective of most advertisers is to make more money, advertisers will spend more or less depending on the niche and audience based on the results they’re getting.
For example, if it costs you $10 to get one sale from running ads to people in the U.S., you would rather do that than get zero sales from Philippine viewers even if you reach ten times more people.
Similarly, if one sale equates to $100 profit for you, then you’re much more willing to spend $100 to get one sale compared to the people who only make $10 profit per sale.
This is why advertisers in certain niches, such as insurance, real estate, beauty, and finance, generally pay more, and thus, channels operating in those niches also earn more per ad view.
With these ideas in mind, I’m going to show you how much YouTube pays per 1,000 views on our sports channel and give you our Google Adsense revenue breakdown by country.
How Much YouTube Pays Per 1,000 Views On Our Sports Channel
We first started creating badminton analysis videos in the middle of July and quickly got it monetized by the end of the month.
Between July 28 and August 22, we got 411K views and earned $488.95 USD from our long-form content.

If we divide our earnings by our views, we get approximately $0.001189 per view. That’s about $1.19 per 1,000 views on our sports YouTube channel.
This data isn’t super useful by itself, though. As mentioned before, your earnings are heavily affected by various factors.
Google Adsense Revenue Breakdown By Country
Today, we’ll examine how our YouTube channel pays us based on our viewers’ location.
Because badminton is much more prevalent in Asian countries like India and Malaysia, our viewers are heavily concentrated in those countries.

Unfortunately for us, advertisers just don’t spend as much money in countries like India and Malaysia as they do in countries like the United States.
So, despite India and Malaysia making up 37% of our viewers, they only make up 11.4% of our revenue. That’s less than the individual earnings from the United States, Singapore, and Australia, who each make up less than 10% of our viewers.

Notably, there are three countries — Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia — where we received over 10K views but fall out of the list above when ranked by estimated revenue.
Here’s our top 20 earnings per 1,000 views based on country:
- Denmark — $3.74
- Australia — $3.66
- United States — $3.53
- Germany — $3.05
- New Zealand — $3.05
- Netherlands — $3.04
- United Kingdom — $2.99
- Sweden — $2.76
- Canada — $2.69
- France — $2.27
- Singapore — $1.51
- Japan — $1.30
- Hong Kong — $1.30
- Taiwan — $0.64
- Malaysia — $0.44
- Indonesia — $0.42
- Philippines — $0.42
- Thailand — $0.40
- India — $0.36
- Vietnam — $0.20
Now, what’s important to note about this Google Adsense revenue breakdown by country is that many other factors affect these results like who clicks and who watches longer, so please don’t rely on the data above for your own results.
It is good to look at this data to give you ideas on what videos you should make next.
For example, certain videos can attract more viewers from a certain location. Our videos about Danish badminton players get more Danish viewers than other ones.
Seeing how Danish viewers generate the most revenue per view, it could make a lot of sense to make more videos focusing on Danish badminton players to attract Danish viewers.
