I can’t believe it. A YouTube channel my brother and I began working on in mid-July this year has grown far faster than I had expected.

In only two weeks, we had gotten our channel monetized, and in less than two months, we have amassed over 10K subscribers.

With August behind and September now upon us, our YouTube channel has experienced its first full month of monetization.

Here’s how much money our YouTube channel with 10K subs earned in its first full month monetized.

Our YouTube Channel Earnings From 10K Subs

Between August 1 and 31, our channel received 997.2K views and 35.5K watch hours, which translated into total earnings of $740.69.

Most of our earnings came from our long-form videos. With 555.2K views, YouTube paid us $717.54.

Our Shorts, on the other hand, paid us significantly less. With 442K views, we only earned $23.15 from Shorts in August.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that our earnings are significantly lower than those of many other channels when we factor in our views.

Our RPM (revenue per mille or, in other words, revenue per 1,000 views) for our long-form videos is $1.29. This is much lower than that of many other YouTubers, who average between $3 and $5.

If we had the same RPM as them, we would have made over $2K. Of course, there’s a good reason our RPM isn’t that high, though.

Most of our viewers are from low-CPM countries like India, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia, where advertisers just don’t spend as much compared to countries like the United States.

I talk more about our earnings from various geographies in the following article:

We’re also in the sports niche, which generally doesn’t generate as much ad revenue as other niches like finance and beauty.

Overall, however, we’re delighted with our performance. Reaching 10K subscribers and earning $740 from almost a million views in our first full month of being monetized wasn’t something we expected at all.

Hopefully, things will only continue to improve in September.

Our YouTube Goals For September

All things considered, hopefully, isn’t the right word.

One lesson that has stuck with me from my luxury real estate days is that hope is not a strategy.

You cannot hope for any result to come. You have to put in the work to achieve what you want to accomplish.

It’s unlikely that this YouTube channel will continue to grow by itself. We have to keep putting in the work.

Now, I’ve made things simple for me and my brother in September.

We will dedicate a few hours in six days every week to make videos. There aren’t going to be new projects like trying to promote the YouTube channel on social media or adding partners and diversifying our income stream out of ads.

We do intend to add these things in the future, but we will only do so once we have a stable income to outsource a lot of the work or have streamlined our craft to the point where we have the extra time to do other things.

For now, however, focus is critical. Our goal is to continue to focus on developing our ability to produce higher-quality videos at faster speeds.

It’s going to be super exciting to see what we’ll be able to accomplish this month, and I’m sure I’ll be back here on Medium sharing our processes and results soon.
