I had been editing a badminton video since 9 AM and decided to take a small break to check my phone. That’s when I saw a Gmail notification, “Article Status Notification from Seeking Alpha Editors.”

A sudden wave of excitement and nervousness rushed over me.

I had written and submitted an article a few days ago and anxiously anticipated whether the article would be accepted or rejected.

Last time, writing and publishing an article on Seeking Alpha was tough.

I Finally Published My First Article in Seeking Alpha

It took over a week to get one article out as I continuously went back and forth with edits.

I hoped that I would learn from my previous work this time and that the publication would go smoothly. That being said, however, I was writing about a very different type of asset that involved different valuation methods I wasn’t particularly familiar with compared to what I had written prior.

Additionally, this was super exciting because this article would generate $65 upfront, regardless of views.

As such, I quickly tapped the notification and clenched my fist in celebration when I saw the result.

Dear Kevin Shan,

Thank you for your submission. Your article “QYLG: Better NASDAQ 100 Buy/Write Funds Exist” has been selected for exclusive publication on Seeking Alpha as part of our Premium Partnership Program. It is set to publish on 09/06/2024 at 02:25 PM. You will receive a notification once the article is published.

And when I checked my author dashboard, I got hit with another dopamine spike.

This is a monumental step toward living off my online ventures.

If I could publish a couple of these articles every month (the more, the better), the fixed plus variable earnings would make my Seeking Alpha blogging efforts into a five-figure income source that would nicely supplement my other ventures.

And today, I will show you how you can do the same.

Write Articles for Investments on the Seeking Alpha Undercovered List

So, if you haven’t inferred from the article already, you can make a fixed $45 per article plus any variable earnings when you write for Seeking Alpha.

Please understand that it’s not any article, though. It has to be about an investment on Seeking Alpha’s Undercovered Stock list.

This undercovered stock list includes thousands of stocks and ETFs that offer fixed payments of upwards of $45 (usually up to $65) if you write an article about an asset on the list.

The list is also constantly changing, so if you are interested in making money writing for Seeking Alpha, you should keep yourself updated.

Aside from fixed earnings, Seeking Alpha works similarly to the Medium Partner Program. Seeking Alpha articles are typically locked behind a paywall where you must view them with a Seeking Alpha premium or higher membership. As an analyst, you will get paid a portion of a subscriber’s membership fee when they view your article.

Thus, you could earn much more than just $45 per article, especially if you consistently write for Seeking Alpha over the long term and grow a following.

The Catches

But before you submit an article to Seeking Alpha, there are a few pitfalls to be aware of.

First, you don’t get paid for writing about investing generally. You get paid for writing about specific assets. You’re essentially a Wall Street Analyst but without the necessary qualifications or work experience (though that probably helps a lot), which leads me to the next point.

While you don’t need to have a business degree or financial analyst certifications, you should treat yourself and your work as if you are a professional analyst.

Frankly, publishing articles on Seeking Alpha is hard.

They have strict guidelines and require you to be thorough and provide unique insights into the asset you write about. Summaries about what the asset does and, as a given, articles whipped up by AI will not be accepted.

I highly recommend reading many articles on the site about the investments you want to write about to see what has been accepted. You may find it worthwhile to practice writing these articles and publishing them on Medium to gain experience, too.

I personally spent about a year reading articles and writing similar ones on Medium before publishing my first on Seeking Alpha. Even then, it took me multiple edits and tries, plus hours of research, to make it work.

It’s also worth mentioning that to qualify for these bonuses, you have to publish the article exclusively at Seeking Alpha. This means you cannot republish them on sites like Medium or Substack newsletter, even if you link back to Seeking Alpha.

How To Get Started Writing for Seeking Alpha

If writing about stock investing is your cup of tea, though, Seeking Alpha could be a great place for you to publish articles. Here’s a general three-step process to get your first $45+ article published:

  1. Create a Seeking Alpha account.
  2. Find an investment you want to write about on the Seeking Alpha Undercovered Stocks list.
  3. Do your research.
  4. Write the article here.
  5. Submit the article.
  6. Revise and resubmit when you receive feedback if needed.
  7. Repeat from step 2.

What I love is that you can get paid instantly for your efforts, even when your following is super small.

For reference, to earn the same amount of money as a Seeking Alpha article’s fixed payment on Medium, I need anywhere between 1–3K views.

These views and earnings on Medium don’t come instantly and aren’t guaranteed. I also earn more from Seeking Alpha despite only having six followers on that platform compared to my 8.4K on Medium.

That doesn’t mean I’ll stop writing on Medium, though. Each platform has different benefits, and I see tremendous value in investing my time in both.

But I’ll save that story for another article.
